Phoenix Thunderbirds Named as an Arizona Organizing Committee Sponsor for the 2016 National Championship
PHOENIX (Oct. 31, 2015) – The Arizona Organizing Committee (AOC) today announced the Phoenix Thunderbirds as the next major Arizona organization to sign on as a sponsor for next year’s College Football Playoff (CFP) National Championship. The Thunderbirds’ sponsorship is an important investment, helping the AOC to achieve its economic and charitable goals while successfully hosting the fan-friendly events for the community in the days leading up to the national championship game.
The AOC and CFP are bringing a variety of signature events and entertainment to Arizona beginning Jan. 8. Events include Playoff Fan Central, a Playoff Playlist Live! concert series and Taste of the Championship, which will all take place in the Championship Campus presented by the Ak-Chin Indian Community in downtown Phoenix. The four-day celebration will target local residents and out-of-state visitors, culminating in the national championship game at University of Phoenix Stadium Jan. 11, 2016.
“The Thunderbirds are an iconic organization, known for their community leadership and dedication to philanthropy. We are grateful for their support and look forward to working together to benefit Arizona through next year’s national championship,” said Brad Wright, co-chair of the AOC.
As part of hosting the 2016 national championship, the AOC will provide $1 million in charitable contributions, the majority of which will benefit education in Arizona through the CFP Extra Yard for Teachers program. The AOC recently kicked off its charitable initiatives, awarding more than $34,000 to Glendale, Ariz. schools to fulfill requests like new supplies and books for more than 50 classrooms.
“The Arizona Organizing Committee shares our vision of giving back to the community through sports and we are excited to partner with them for the 2016 College Football Playoff National Championship,” said Dan Mahoney, tournament chairman for the 2016 Waste Management Phoenix Open.
